Polaron Cortina has extensive experience in the engineering and supply of variable speed drives and associated control systems over a wide spectrum of industries including Water, Papermaking, Oil & Petrochem, Material handling, Metal Industries, Brewing & Distilling, Rubber and Plastics, Mining, and Marine.

For over 30 years Polaron Cortina variable speed drives and associated control systems have been keeping industry on the move.

Whether the process requirement is for high power pumping in the water and chemical industries, or accurate speed control of multi section machines in the paper and steel industries, Polaron Cortina are at the forefront of drive technology providing positive solutions to the ever more demanding needs of industry today.

Our drives and control systems are designed for reliability and ease of use and include many practical features to minimise plant downtime, thereby increasing process profits whilst reducing cost.

Real Solutions for today's problems.
Polaron Cortina's drives and control systems are designed to minimise the problems associated with harmonics and incoming supply voltage distortion. All our drive systems are designed to operate within the Electricity Association Engineering Recommendation G5/4.

Variable Frequency Inverters
Our range of standard inverters are designed for general purpose use. The inverters are suitable for both simple and more advanced systems, employing PLC control and interfacing.

The drives offer outstanding performance charactistics to suit the most demanding of applications. All standard inverters feature a local MMI (Man Machine Interface) for parameter entry. Simple commissioning is ensured via factory default setup for immediate use on standard applications.

Polaron Cortina also manufactures bespoke inverters when there is no standard product that will meet the requirements of an application.

ISK Slip Recovery Drives

- Motor Power up to 20,000kW -
The improved Static Kramer drive (ISK) is an AC slip energy recovery drive comprising of a diode rectifier, chopper, recovery inverter and recovery transformer. It is the simplest, most efficient and economical means of controlling the speed of large wound rotor induction motors without any of the problems associated with the conventional static Kramer or other types of drive such as bad power factor and high harmonic content.

UPF DC Drives

- Motor Power up to 2,500kW -
The unity power factor drive is an efficient, chopper based DC drive capable of operating at near unity power factor over it's entire speed range unlike conventional DC drives which suffer from very low power factor at low speeds.

The UPF drive is ideally suited for common DC link systems such as steel mills and paper machines where its 'ride through' capability and fast response to speed and load changes result in reduced web breaks and significant financial benefit.

Supply harmonics below the 23rd are virtually eliminated, when a 24 pulse incomer section is employed.
