Sub-Miniature Lamps

Sub-Miniature lamps and Lampholders come with an exceptionally long lifetime of up to 100,000 hours, used typically in aircraft instrument panels, panel lighting, digitisers, encoders, communications and other commercial and defence applications.

A comprehensive range of sub-miniature lamps and lampholders, compatible with the dimensions of the international T.1.1”Wheatear” type and fully complying with the requirements of Approval organisations. Superior construction techniques ensure long life spans in a diverse range of military communications and other commercial and defence applications. The T.1. series of low voltage have high quality filaments that are inherently strong, with short length and large diameter for optimum performance. Their physical construction ensures longevity and resonance free operation. Lamps are designed to withstand pressure filled environments-where the effect of helium can cause the premature failure of other filament lamps.

LIFE EXPECTANCY
Lamps undergo a rigorous testing procedure to ensure guaranteed life spans are possible. All lamps are carefully lit and aged to stabilise the output characteristics, and quality control samples are tested for over-voltage to allow equivalent life calculation. Incidental supply voltage fluctuations can seriously effect the life span and should be avoided. Inrush currents upon switching on cold filaments can be 12 times higher than the normal operating level, this effect must be take into consideration on lamps which are switched at high repetition rates. Other detrimental factors include shock, vibration and temperature.

LAMP TYPES AVAILABLE
Four ranges of lamps are available with a range from 5 to 28V and output of up to 2.0 lumens. Average life spans are 5,000 to 100,000 hours. Lamps can be supplied to design requirements or as replacement equivalents to specifications. Dimensions and sample lists are available on request.
1. Capless Lamps (code BP)
2. Capped Lamps (code BF) with SM Flange S3s
3. Printed Circuit Indicator (code IL) expendable type with coloured plastic cap.
4. Indicator Lamps (codes IL, IG, IS) expendable type. 2 BA Stud type single hole panel mounting, supply with PVC insulated flying leads.
All available with a range of lens colours.

LAMPHOLDERS AVAILABLE
For use with any sub-miniature indicator flange capped lamps to T.1. dimensions. Lamps are easily fitted by unscrewing the lens cap-there are no loose components (springs, clips, etc.) that could be lost.

Holders are supplied in two specifications; for standard commercial use and for essential applications, such as aircraft.

Lenses are supplied as coloured glass for a strident signal effect or as diffusing fade resistant plastic for a more pleasing colour effect and to minimise eye-fatigue during extended use.

Commercial: non-insulated nickel-plated assembly for single pole/ earth return circuits.
Aircraft: passivated zinc-plated assembly for double pole circuits. Insulated to allow operation above chassis potential and to remove the danger of a fault current if accidentally earthed.
Available with a glass lens (type MG) or a flat plastic lens to reduce height (type ML/1 Special).

AIRCRAFT SUB-MINIATURE INDICATING LAMPHOLDER

The Components Group's Indicating Lampholders are for use with any of the sub-miniature flange capped lamps to the international dimensions of the T.I. 'Wheatear' type.

Lamps are easily fitted by unscrewing the lens cap, inserting the lamp and replacing the lens cap. There are no loose springs, clips, etc. to be lost in the process. To standardise ordering procedure, the lampholders are supplied without lamps.

APPLICATION NOTES:

Type MG/Commercial: A non-insulated, bright, nickel-plated assembly for single pole/earth return circuits. A clear plastic lens is normally supplied in the appropriate signal colour and is particularly suited where a strident signalling effect is desired.

Type ML/Commercial: Of similar construction to MG/Commercial but normally supplied with a diffusing fade resistant plastic lens which is particularly suited in applications where a more pleasing colour effect is desired and where eye-fatigue might otherwise be a problem.

Type MG/Aircraft: An insulated, passivated, cadmium-plated assembly for double pole circuits. The lens surround insert is moulded integrally with an insulated cap to allow the holder to be operated above chassis potential and removes the danger of a fault circuit which might occur if the front of the indicator is accidentally earthed by an operator. The MG/Aircraft is supplied with a plastic lens of appropriate signal colour and although primarily intended for use in aircraft, it can by recommended for any similar vital application.

Type ML/1 Special Aircraft: Similar in all respects to MG/Aircraft except that a special flat plastic lens is fitted to reduce the front height.
